James Maddison, born on November 23, 1996, in Coventry, England, is a professional English footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder. He emerged from Coventry’s youth academy and made his debut for the first team in August 2014; in November of the same year, he signed his first professional contract. During the 2014–15 season, he missed several matches due to a red card and a back injury. In February 2016, he joined Norwich City, but was immediately loaned back to Coventry for the remainder of the season. At the start of the 2016–17 season, he was loaned to Scottish club Aberdeen. In June 2017, he signed a new four-year contract. During the 2017–18 season, he became a regular starter; he was named Norwich’s Player of the Season, and was included in both the PFA Team of the Year and the EFL Team of the Season in the Championship. In June 2018, he joined Leicester City on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of around £20 million. In his debut season, he won Leicester’s Young Player of the Season award. In July 2020, he extended his contract by another four years. In 2021, he helped his team win the FA Cup and the Community Shield; that same season, he was once again named Leicester’s Player of the Season. In February 2023, he captained the team for the first time; however, the team failed to avoid relegation that season. In June 2023, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year deal worth £40 million. In August, he was appointed vice-captain. That same month, he was named Premier League Player of the Month; however, an ankle injury in November sidelined him until 2024. Upon his return, his form fluctuated. During the pre-season for the 2025–26 season, he suffered a serious knee injury, which will keep him out for most of the season. From 2017 to 2019, he represented England’s U21 team; in 2019, he made his debut for the senior national team. He was also part of England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.
