Kai Havertz, born on June 11, 1999, in Aachen, Germany, is a professional German footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or forward. At the age of 4, he joined the amateur club Alemannia Mariadorf. In 2009, he moved to the youth team of Aachen, and just one year later, at the age of 11, he joined the Leverkusen youth academy. In 2016, he received the Fritz Walter Silver Medal for U-17 players; subsequently, he was promoted to the senior team. He made his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen in October 2016 and scored his first goal for the club in April of that year, becoming the youngest player ever to score in the Bundesliga. In 2019, he broke multiple records: he became the youngest player to reach 75 and 100 Bundesliga appearances; his 17 goals in a single season set a record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the Bundesliga; he also finished as runner-up for the German Footballer of the Year award. During the 2019–20 season, he became the youngest player to reach 100 Bundesliga appearances, while also delivering outstanding performances in the UEFA Europa League. In September 2020, he signed with Chelsea; the initial transfer fee was £62 million, making him the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history. During his time at Chelsea, he helped the team win multiple titles, while also making crucial contributions in both domestic and European competitions. In June 2023, he joined Arsenal for a fee of £65 million. In March, he set a record as the first German player to score in four consecutive Premier League matches; his total of 20 goals that season marked his best performance in the Premier League. He scored at the start of the 2024–25 season, but his campaign ended prematurely in February 2025 due to a hamstring tear. Havertz made his debut for the German U-16 national team in 2014. In 2016, he participated in the U-17 European Championship. In 2017, he debuted for the U-19 team and scored four goals in a single match; later, he became captain of the U-19 side. In September 2018, he made his debut for the senior German national team, becoming the first player born in 1999 to represent Germany at that level.
