In a recent analysis report, the sports content evaluation system encountered a unique case: the entire input file was empty. The level-two analysis immediately noted that there was no article content or information item to process. Data fields such as patch, meta, teams, players, statistics, and dates were all marked as N/A.
As a result, four important measures including competitive value, industry value, timeliness, and reference value all scored zero stars. This means no analysis could be constructed. Terms like meta, BP, BO1, BO3, BO5, IGL, or the concept of 'cjb' in the esports world become meaningless without a specific match context. The risk warning was raised to a high level, urgently requiring original text or a summary before deeper analysis.
This story reflects a reality not rare in Vietnamese sports journalism: many news pieces rely on emotion and vague statements such as 'The club showed their spirit' without providing concrete metrics. A sports journalist should not just say the team won or lost; they must explain why they won, what percentage of possession they had, how many shots on target, and what the pressing frequency in the last 30 meters was. Without these numbers, an article cannot be called analysis; it is a subjective narrative.
During my years following matches in Vietnam's national football championship, I notice the clear difference between stories that cite data and those lacking statistics. For example, one cannot discuss high pressing without the PPDA figure. Nor can we say a defender played well by just looking at tackles while ignoring how often he was dribbled past. In esports, a vision score measurement is far more valuable than a highlight-reel play if the goal is to evaluate the game state.
As I wrote once: 'Vision score never lies, but it also doesn't tell stories.' The writer must be the storyteller for these numbers. But when even those numbers are missing, the story becomes fiction. The fact that an analytical algorithm honestly admits its weakness shows a standard worth learning: say 'I don't know' rather than trying to invent answers.
This is especially true in today's information-saturated environment. Vietnamese readers are becoming smarter; they can recognize an analysis that fills gaps with flowery words. Therefore, when there is insufficient data to assess, journalists should be transparent about the limits. A newspaper willing to print 'this reporter could not verify' is more trustworthy than a long but empty article.
Back to the 'empty input' situation. The system also gave follow-up signals, such as the trigger condition 'there is any new article data' would allow analysis to recover immediately. This implies that the issue is not poor analysis ability, but a lack of source material. It is also a message for sports content producers: before asking experts for deep analysis, make sure to supply raw data. If you give an expert a blank paper, they cannot paint a perfect tactic.
In the future, Vietnamese sports journalism should build an open, systematic database so that every analysis is based on evidence. Leagues such as V.League could cooperate with statistical agencies, and the esports community should also have standardized indices such as the 'VangBong.vn Player Depth Index.' When data becomes the standard, the value of analysis will rise, and fans will enjoy more substantive viewpoints instead of empty praise.
Finally, the 88th minute of a match does not always bring a miracle; likewise, a well-timed number can lift an entire article. Journalists must strive to find data like athletes seek form. If not, we are essentially writing fiction, not sports journalism.
